This two-day trek climbs the Knuckles Five Peaks on the first day and walks the Kotaganga waterfall chain on the second. You sleep in a cabana near the forest, not in a cave. The walking distance is about 24 kilometres in total, with around 900 metres of elevation change. Pickup is in Kandy at 6:30 a.m., from 120 US dollars.
Day one starts at Bambarella and climbs toward the five summits before dropping to the cabana. Day two is the waterfall valley: five main falls, the odd upward spray when the wind is right, and a return to Kandy by late afternoon. Village meals are part of the trip. The cabana is simple, with a real bed, which suits people who want the ridge without a cave night.
Note: About 24 km on foot. Pickup in Kandy at 6:30 a.m. Drop-off Kandy, about 5:00 p.m. on day 2.
Drive from Kandy to Bambarella, with a breakfast stop if you want one. Climb about 7 km toward the first of the five summits, cross the ridge, then continue about 9 km to the cabana. Lunch is a village-style parcel on the trail.
Walk the waterfall chain, including the gorge where mist can blow upward, then meet the vehicle for a drop in Kandy around 5 p.m.
