The novice trek is seven days and about 80 kilometres, graded easy to moderate, for a first walking holiday in Sri Lanka. From Kandy you visit Riverston and Mini World's End, Corbett's Gap, the Kotaganga falls, the Five Peaks, Heeloya, Bambaragala, and stage 1 of the Pekoe Trail. The starting rate is 450 US dollars. Days are steady rather than extreme.
The week is a tour of the Kandy hill country on foot, not a single wilderness camp. You see the two classic Knuckles viewpoints, walk one proper ridge, spend time in Heeloya, and finish on the tea trail above the city. Nights are in simple guesthouses and a cabana, so you are not carrying a full camp. Total walking is about 80 km, which is a lot for a beginner, so the daily distances stay moderate and the hardest ridge is not on day one.
Note: About 80 km on foot. Pickup in Kandy at 6:30 a.m. on day 1. Drop-off Kandy, day 7.
Leave Kandy toward Matale, stop at Pitawala Pathana, and walk the viewpoints at Riverston, including Mini World's End above Ududumbara.
Cross toward the Meemure road, walk through Loolwatte, and spend time at Corbett's Gap, the pass named for a British-period surveyor.
Walk about 8 to 10 km on the waterfall chain and the plains, then sleep at the cabana. Elevation change on this day is about 500 metres.
The ridge day, about 16 km with roughly 800 metres of climbing, and a third night at the cabana.
About 10 km from the cabana to Heeloya, a village morning, and the old court site.
A walk up Bambaragala for the view over Victoria Lake. The stage is shorter, about 6 km.
Walk stage 1 from the Hantana side near the Ceylon Tea Museum toward Galaha, about 12.8 km, and return to Kandy.

Open in Google MapsYes, if you can walk for a few hours on uneven ground. The week still totals about 80 km, so train with some longer walks before you fly. It is not a resort holiday with one short stroll a day.
